Alternative Learning Provision

Our Provision

Portishead Youth & Community Centre have been delivering Alternative Learning Provision support and making a difference to children and young people since 2019. In 2022 our organisation was granted approved supplier status across North Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
We provide a range of support including academic provision, mentoring, in-school support, music studio sessions and qualifications for young people to earn nationally recognised accreditation through ASDAN short courses, as well as creating bespoke packages tailored to the individuals we work with. We offer holistic support, offering a blend of academic learning, mentoring, in-school support, and creative opportunities to meet individual needs.

Outdoor Learning We offer a bespoke package that caters to the young person's individual needs. We have a membership with Noah’s Ark Zoo which enables us to visit as many times as possible. Young people are able to learn about zoo keeping and animal care from one of our mentors who worked there as a zookeeper. The YP will learn where the animals originate from, their natural habitat, the food they eat and how to care for them.
Project based learning
Project-based learning allows students to explore subjects like science, history, and geography through creative projects such as posters and presentations. This hands-on approach helps learners connect knowledge to real-world contexts and express their understanding in meaningful ways.We design bespoke learning packages tailored to each individual, ensuring that every project reflects their interests, abilities, and goals. Whether researching a historical event or investigating a scientific concept, students develop confidence and critical thinking through personalised exploration. Our project-based approach encourages curiosity and collaboration while supporting a range of learning styles. By combining creativity with academic study, learners gain both practical skills and a deeper appreciation of the world around them.
